Hello there 👋 I’m Zara (Zah-ruh)
I'm a laid back Freelance Photographer based in Philly, curious about the juxtapositions and interactions of the world.
When I was a kid I wanted to be a skateboarder and a photographer. Not every little girl's dream, but hey, I’m not everyone else. I was always taking photos and making home movies. During high school I took TV Production, Photography, and went down to The University of the Arts of Philadelphia on Saturdays to take a “Documentary Filmmaking” course. So while I’ve always had the foundation of Photographer, my path to Freelance Photography was anything but a straight line.
I’ve been an
-Talk Radio Producer
-Hostess at a restaurant in the French Quarter (Nola baby)
-Tennis teacher at the Arthur Ashe Center
-Court Officer at the Criminal Justice Center here in Philadelphia
-and a few other bits and bobs that interested me in my 20’s.
While working at the CJC in Mental Health and Veteran’s Court was rewarding in many ways, I knew this wasn’t my future and taking photos always remained in the back of my mind. So I hustled. On my lunch breaks at the courthouse I’d walk around and take photos. I took a Digital Photography class in the evenings at The University of the Arts of Philadelphia, and brushed up on my old photography notes from “Images of News" at Emerson College (my alma mater) where I received a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Congratulations if you're still reading! To be able to take photographs for a living is my dream and I don’t take the responsibility of capturing the special moments in your life lightly. If you're looking to spruce up your mantel, capture a family event, or haven't had a really great picture taken of yourself in a while, I can help :)
Recently I was named one of the Top Event Photographers in Philadelphia by Peerspace!
Philadelphia, will travel : )
